One of Harefield’s most iconic brands is returning to the High Street. Humphreys and Sons is due to re-open next week after an absence of some thirty years. The shop will be in the same place as before, next to Braisher’s Scrapyard and the butchers.
The business specialises in hand made bespoke footwear and luxury leather goods. It will be run by Young Mr. Humphreys, grandson of the original Mr. Humphreys, no relation to the camp one in Are You Being Served? The company has not been dormant these last few years however. Young Mr. Humphreys told the Scandal. “After grandad retired we shut the shop and rented it to the bloke who shouts at pedestrians if someone parks in his place. I then waited for the Internet to start up and developed an online enterprise with our store http://www.humphreysandsons.com on eBay. We shall be manufacturing our own brand of hand made hand stitched brogues for the gentleman about town and our old favourite best seller, stiletto thigh length leather kinky boots for the dominatrix. We will of course also be retailing other leading makes such as Clarks, Crocs and Tuf Wayfinders”.
Some traditions will be maintained though. The original proprietor, Mr. Humphreys Senior has spoke of his intention to return to work for one or two days a week to stand in the shop doorway and drum up business. He spoke to our reporter ” I’m looking forward to coming back to the village and renewing old friendships. How’s Mr. Adams and his haberdashery business? “.
Mr. Humphreys sells another pair of stiletto boots to Miss Whiplash 1963.
