Park And Ride Scheme For Harefield.

Harefield is to be the first village in Middlesex to trial a new Park And Ride scheme. The Parish Council have been so impressed with the magnificent new car park at the Football Club, that will never be filled with football fans, they have decided to utilise the twenty acre site as a base for park and ride.

The High Street is to become pedestrianised apart from buses and villagers will no longer be able to park outside their houses. Buses will run from the Football Club car park every half hour during the day, between the hours of nine  until five Monday to Friday. Villagers will be dropped off by the bus stop on the common and will be able to walk home from there.

The fares will be on a ‘Pay what you can afford ‘ basis with a suggested voluntary contribution of two and sixpence. The Parish Council has purchased a fleet of former London Country Bus 347s and is currently advertising for drivers and conductors. Would be applicants need a clean driving license and good knowledge of the route along Breakspear Road North.

Profits from the service are expected to be split between the Football Club to pay for their new ‘South Stand’, named after local legend Scobie South, and the Parish Council for their Gilbert O’Sullivan Park Youth Centre.

Mayor of Harefield Baron Londis told the Scandal “This will really put Harefield on the map. When this scheme is a success I fully expect other villages such as Denham and West Hyde to follow”. When our reporter pointed out that West Hyde is a hamlet, the Baron retorted “If you’re gonna split hairs I’m off! Shop Londis!”

A spokesman for the Football Club, former player and stalwart Moulder Evans commented “Fuckin’ useless idea”.

The scheme is due to start sometime before Christmas and is not expected to last a week.
